How we work

We help you look inside and build a clear path to success

Every engagement starts by looking inside — an honest diagnostic — then moves to doing the work, not just recommending it.

STEP 01

Diagnose

The Diagnostic — a clear, honest baseline of performance, value and opportunity.

STEP 02

Implement

Fixing the priorities first — the changes that move the dial.

STEP 03

Transform

Embedding stronger operations, leadership and growth.

STEP 04

Advise

Ongoing coaching and mentoring through growth.

Strategic & Operational Advisory

Most businesses don’t need to work harder.

They need to find what’s quietly slowing them down. In most operations, a surprising share of the working day goes into activity the customer never pays for — waiting, rework, double handling, chasing information. Find that, and you release capacity you already own without spending a dollar.

Find the waste

Using LEAN principles to spot the eight classic wastes: waiting, rework, over-processing, excess stock, unnecessary movement, over-production, transport and untapped talent.

Map how work really flows

Following a job end to end — from order to delivery — to see where time, margin and momentum actually disappear. It’s almost never where people assume.

Lift productivity

Clearing bottlenecks, standardising the way good work gets done, and matching capacity to demand so the team stops firefighting.

Make it stick

Simple measures, a regular rhythm and a culture of continuous improvement, so gains hold long after the project ends.

The result: lower cost to serve, faster turnaround, better margin and a business that runs on a system rather than on heroics.

Leadership & Management Training

Managers run the work. Leaders grow the people.

Most businesses promote their best technician into management and hope for the best. But the skills that made someone excellent at the job are rarely the skills that make them good with people. The strongest operators learn to do both, and to know which one the moment calls for.

A manager tends to…
  • Plan the work and organise resources
  • Direct and instruct
  • Report
  • Control process and detail
  • Operational excellence
  • Ask ‘how and when’
  • Set clear KPI’s and measures
  • Focus on the week
A leader tends to…
  • Set direction and explain why
  • Coach and ask questions
  • Inspire
  • Extend trust and ownership
  • Focus on next year
  • Ask ‘what and why’
  • Empower
  • Motivate

Neither is better. A business that’s all management stalls; a business that’s all leadership drifts. The skill is knowing when to switch.

Talk about your team

For 16–19 year olds

The skills school doesn’t teach.

Most young people leave school without ever being shown how superannuation works, how to hold a confident conversation with an adult, or how a business actually makes money. The Real World Program fills that gap in eight practical sessions, with plenty of doing and very little lecturing.

Yourself

First impressions, conversation, body language and reading the room, so they can walk into any situation with confidence.

Money

Compound interest, payslips, superannuation, salary sacrifice, budgeting and the bills of adult life, explained in plain language.

Business

How a business makes money, the difference between revenue and profit, and how to read a profit and loss statement.

Influence

Selling, asking better questions and handling objections, the same skills that win a job interview or a pay rise.

Eight sessions of about 90 minutes, run weekly or as a two-day school-holiday intensive. Small groups. Finishes with a short presentation.

Led by Darren Bowler, drawing on decades in business, dual degrees in commerce and psychological science, raising three young men and 15+ years coaching AFL.

Market Analysis & Research

Know the market before you bet on it.

Too many decisions get made on a gut feel about ‘how big this could be’. Real numbers change the conversation. We size the opportunity properly, then go out and test it with the people who would actually buy.

TAM

Total Addressable Market

Everyone who could conceivably buy what you sell, if you had unlimited reach. The ceiling on the opportunity.

SAM

Serviceable Addressable Market

The realistic slice of that you can actually reach and serve, given where you operate, what you sell and who you can get to.

SOM

Serviceable Obtainable Market

What you can genuinely win in the next few years, given your capacity, your competitors and your budget. This is the number that should drive your plan.

What else we look at
Who your best customers really areWho you’re competing against and how they priceWhere the gaps and white space sitWhat buyers will actually payHonest feedback gathered face to face and through surveys

You end up with a defensible view of the opportunity and a clear, prioritised plan for how to go after it.

About

Darren Bowler

Founder

Darren brings decades of leadership, operational and commercial experience across highly competitive wholesale, distribution and supply-chain businesses. He has spent his career inside these organisations, building high-performing teams, developing leaders, fixing operations, growing sales and margin and unlocking value.

What sets his advisory work apart is a distinctive academic foundation, dual bachelor’s degrees in commerce and psychological science. Where many advisors treat business improvement as a purely structural or financial challenge, Darren engages with both the commercial fundamentals and the human factors, behavioural patterns, motivations and decision-making dynamics that so often determine whether a strategy succeeds. It’s this blend of commercial acumen, human insight and an operator’s eye that lets him deliver outcomes that are strategically sound and organisationally sustainable, seeing a company the way a serious buyer will, whether the goal is a stronger business, a smart acquisition or the best possible sale.

That same belief in people extends well beyond the boardroom. Across 15+ years coaching AFL and raising three boys with a growth mindset, Darren has seen first-hand what young people can achieve when they’re given the right guidance and the confidence that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. It’s this passion for developing potential early that shapes his work helping the next generation understand business and back themselves to succeed.
